Pokémon Go gives fans long-asked-for feature but not everyone can get involved

Date: 2024-10-21

POKÉMON Go developer Niantic has just announced a new feature that people have been begging for.

Gigantamax Battles and Gigantamax Pokémon have been added to Pokémon Go, and people will be able to take them on in raids.

Dynamax Pokémon were announced for Pokémon Go during the Pokémon World Championships, but Gigantamax takes things one step further.

Niantic has now revealed details for a new raid mechanic, such as how Gigantamax raids will work, and which Pokémon are available at launch.

While Dynamax Pokémon are just larger versions of regular Pokémon, Gigantamax Pokémon have new forms and moves.

For these raids players will team up in lobbies of up to 40 players to take down the Gigantamax Pokémon.

There will be three Gigantamax Pokémon available when the feature launches, which include G-Max Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.

However, a trailer has hinted that more Pokémon such as G-Max Kingler, Orbeetle and Toxtricity will be added to the game at a later date.

Niantic has warned players that these battles will be extremely difficult, and go even beyond the five-star raids currently available.

In fact, these raids will supposedly be on the same level as those reserved for powerful legendary Pokémon.

It’s possible to join Gigantamax Battles with just one or two players, but it will be impossible to win with so few people.

Niantic claims that Gigantamax Raids will need at least nine or 10 players if they want to successfully win.

This has led many players to be concerned that they cannot complete these raids as they live in more remote areas with fewer Pokémon Go players.

Niantic used to have remote raids so that people could ask their friends from different areas to play, but this is no longer available.

Currently, you can’t use Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon in Gym or trainer battles, but Niantic says it’s working on implementing them in more gameplay mechanics in the future.

The three Kanto starter Gigantamax Pokémon will be available in Pokémon Go from October 26, 2024, at 10:00am local time to October 27, 2024, at 8:00pm local time.

Check out your local gyms to see if you can snag these Pokémon for yourself.
