Horrified witnesses have described how the teenager was flung “150 metres” after being struck by the vehicle.

The driver narrowly avoids striking other pedestrians on the street, before eventually coming to a halt after crashing into another car.

Despite their best efforts, emergency services sadly pronounced the teenager dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody after being discharged from hospital.

Locals have revealed how they had to “lift” the car off the teenager following the horror crash.

Shopkeeper Kumail Hasane, 19, who was among the first to the scene, told The Sun: “I was in the shop and then I heard a loud crash.
“I was the first one there.

“We had to lift that car to get her out but no one’s surviving that impact.”

Chaudrey Hussein, 45, who works at a nearby garage, added: “It was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.”

Police cordons and road closures were put in place following the crash, but have since been lifted.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Detectives investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Newham are appealing for witnesses and anyone with footage to come forward.

“The incident occurred at approximately 15:44hrs on Tuesday, 15 October, on Barking Road, E16.

“Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service, attended the scene, where a Nissan Juke had collided with an 18-year-old female pedestrian and another vehicle.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency teams, the young pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“The driver of the Nissan Juke, a 45-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“After receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital, he was taken into police custody, where he remains at this time.

“Following the collision, cordons and road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to access the scene.

“These restrictions have since been lifted, and the area is now open to traffic.

“Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward.
