Whoopi Goldberg disputes Joe Rogan’s claim that The View ‘loved’ its ‘friend’ Trump years ago

The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg ripped podcaster Joe Rogan for suggesting that her show had once “loved” former President Donald Trump and treated him as a “friend.”

“There’s a lot of fake news coming up, so we’re going to clear some of it up,” Goldberg said on Monday at the beginning of a segment on The View, which dissected Trump’s Friday appearance on Rogan’s podcast.

Goldberg began her critique of Rogan’s recent podcast episode by clarifying that Trump’s viral interview on The View, which Rogan discussed with Trump, was actually in 2011 — not 2015 or 2016, as Rogan had said.

“That’s the first thing they got wrong,” she said.

Goldberg then continued to discuss how the show’s co-hosts had received Trump at the time, referencing Rogan’s comments made during the three-hour podcast interview: “You got introduced as ‘our friend’ Donald Trump. Whoopi Goldberg gives you a big hug and a kiss. Joy Behar gives you a big hug. Barbara Walters gives you a big hug. They all loved you. They were all talking about how you might be conservative in your financial positions, but you’re very liberal socially — they were talking about you in such a favorable light.”

The co-host of The View said that she clearly was not favorable to the then-reality TV star and real estate mogul, referencing the unpleased look on her face during the Trump interview in 2011.

“So Barbara was her usual polite self as she was with every guest. But did I look warm and fuzzy? Was that a warm and fuzzy welcome for him?” Goldberg said on Monday. “But because I respect Barbara, she said be polite to guests, no matter what. And for the most part, I got through it. I did it, like I do now.”

The Sister Act star then showed a clip of the 2011 interview where the co-hosts sparred with Trump about his comments about President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

“I think that’s the biggest pile of dog mess I’ve heard in ages,” Goldberg said during the interview. “It’s not because he’s black? Because I’ve never heard of any white president being asked to show a birth certificate? That’s B.S.”

“Honey, Joe. I think you missed this part,” Goldberg said about the old interview clip, taking a dig at Rogan for not airing her sparring with Trump.

“This show has allowed all kinds of people to come on, people we agree with, people we don’t agree with,” Goldberg explained on Monday about the past interview with Trump. “I have not been a fan of [Trump]. I don’t like how he talks to us. I don’t like how he talks to the nation. I [did] not really have much to say until he started running for president. [Back] then, [in 2011] … my face said everything I needed to say.”

Goldberg has spent the election cycle referring to the former president as “you know who” rather than saying his name aloud.

She later said in the same episode of The View that Trump might break up interracial marriages through deportation.

“The man is out there!” she said.

Social media reacted to The View’s Monday episode, questioning its rationality.

One social media user called the show a “nationally televised insane asylum.”

Another wrote, “This is so bonkers it could be satire.”
