PS5 super fan buys PS Plus subscription until 2048 and saves £1,500

As prices keep increasing, a PlayStation fan has bought 8,627 days of PS Plus subscriptions, that will take them all the way up to the PS9 in 2048.
The constant increase in consumer prices hits the milk we buy at the supermarket just like it does to video games and subscription services, like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
Earlier this year, the prices of Game Pass subscriptions increased while day one releases were removed from the cheapest tier. PS Plus also saw a hike in costs last year, but one fan thinks they’ve beaten the system.
By ordering enough PS Plus subscriptions to last them until 2048, they hope they won’t have to worry about inflation anymore, while saving over £1,000.
‘I decided to stack PS Plus subscriptions until 2048, because of the absurd price increases the past few years,’ said On_Reddit_In_Class.
‘I figure that I’ll probably be gaming for most of my life so it would save a good bit of money.’
By buying enough 12-month PS Plus Essential subscriptions to reach 2048, they would have spent a total of £1,440 (each costing £59.99), but they found a very cheap way to upgrade to Premium.
Buying the cheaper PS Plus Essential subscription until 2048 first, they then upgraded all of them to the Premium tier later for a capped fee of $199.99 (£155) for the remaining 8,627 days on his deal, which saved them £1,500.
Some on Reddit questioned their investment, saying that PlayStation might not even be a thing in 24 years, to which On_Reddit_In_Class replied:
‘I thought about about a lot of scenarios, including this and came to the conclusion that if I only use it until 2035, I’ll still save money being how absurd the price increases have been.’
He might be reassured by the fact that Sony has already registered trademarks for PS6 through PS10 and the publisher also (jokingly) referenced the PS9 in a PlayStation 2 advert as far back as 1999.
If the trend of releasing a new console every seven years continues, the PS Plus Premium membership will last up until the launch of the PlayStation 9, which would coincidentally come out in 2048.
Although nothing substantial has ever been rumoured about the PlayStation 6, the next gen Xbox is rumoured to be coming out in 2026 – and it’s likely Sony won’t want to be too far behind that.
Whether consoles as we know it today will still exist in 2048 seems doubtful though, as by then broadband should be fast enough and reliable enough to make them unnecessary.
In that sense On_Reddit_In_Class may have made a wise choice, as you could argue there’s more chance of PS Plus, or a future equivalent, existing in 2048 than there is a physical PlayStation console.
