Millions in DRC face severe food insecurity

Date: 2024-10-29

The ongoing conflict in eastern DRC has disrupted agriculture, displaced millions, and exacerbated the humanitarian situation.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) warns that the crisis could worsen if urgent action is not taken. The agency is working to provide emergency assistance, including distributing seeds, tools, and cash transfers to vulnerable households.

The conflict in eastern DRC has had a devastating impact on rural communities, destroying livelihoods and infrastructure. Many people have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind their farms and livestock.

To address the food crisis, FAO is implementing various initiatives, such as:

Providing immediate food aid and essential supplies to vulnerable populations. Distributing seeds, tools, and fertilizers to help farmers restore their livelihoods. Providing cash transfers to enable households to purchase food and other essential items.

The international community must continue to support efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in the DRC and promote peace and stability in the region.
