Lidl responds to Liam Gallagher’s £400 “Lidl jacket” with hilarious “god tier media placement” next to Manchester mural

Date: 2024-10-30

LIDL has responded to Liam Gallagher’s £400 “Lidl jacket” with a hilarious “god tier media placement” next to a new mural of the musician in Manchester.

A snap shared yesterday shows the German supermarket chain’s advertisement on Oldham Road in the city centre, underneath the recently unveiled artwork of Gallagher.

The 52-year-old was the subject of ridicule from fans after modelling a Berghaus jacket in colours which resembled the budget supermarket’s logo.

Now, Lidl has capitalised on the joke with the unveiling of a jacket potato ad, just yards from the mammoth mural.

Gallagher collaborated with the outdoor clothing brand to celebrate “iconic reunions in 2024” ahead of the Oasis reunion tour next year.

Just like the parkas he frequently dons on stage, he was seen modelling a blue, red and yellow waterproof jacket, which retails at £400.

Fans didn’t hesitate to point out its striking similarity to the supermarket’s colourful logo though, joking that it made him look like a supermarket employee.

A mural picturing him wearing the jacket was recently completed on the end of a building in Manchester.

A billboard sits underneath it, which Lidl has seized to advertise its jacket potatoes.

It simply reads, “Lidl jacket” in between the logo and an image of a potato.

It was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “There’s great media placement, then there is god tier media placement.”

It has since received over 2,500 likes and a slew of comments from amused Brits sharing their reactions.

One wrote: “That’s hilarious. Wish I’d seen it when I drove past yesterday.”

A second said: “One of them is hideous and it’s not the edible jacket.”

Another commented: “Saw a guy wearing that Liam jacket, with [Paul] Weller hair, in Manchester last night. Strong look.”

A fourth added: “Wasn’t he a Stone Island ambassador last month?”

Lidl itself responded with: “Stop it, we’re blushing.”

Lidl GB did not have a statement to share at this time.
