PS5 Pro unboxing video leaks online thanks to German retailer
Date: 2024-11-01
A week before its official launch, a video game store in Germany has shown off the PS5Pro in a detailed new video.
Sony’s mid-generation update for the PlayStation 5 is set to launch on Thursday, November 7 at the eye-watering price of £699.99, and it seems like retailers already have the console in stock.
While that’s no surprise considering it does launch next week, what is unusual is that a retailer in Germany has uploaded an unboxing video of the console before anyone else, presumably without Sony’s permission.
The video is courtesy of German retailer NetGames, who uploaded the lengthy video on Instagram, before then hurriedly taking it down.
In the video, the store’s owner is seen with multiple PS5 Pro units and, after some waffling, he unboxes one of them on camera. Although the clip was later taken down you can still watch it on Streamable and Twitter.
The video doesn’t show anything particularly surprising about the PS5 Pro (the specifications leaked months ago) but it gives a better look at the system’s size and design.
At the same time, a shot of the PS5 Pro guts has circulated online which shows a redesign to make accessing the system’s CMOS battery easier. The battery powers core information like the system clock and other settings, and it previously caused some PS5 players problems by locking them out of games, but it seems like it will now be easier to replace or repair with the PS5 Pro.
Along with the additional power in the technical specifications, the main draw of the PS5 Pro is the enhanced games on offer at launch. You can find a full list here, but these include Alan Wake 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Unlike the main PlayStation 5 console, the PS5 Pro will be digital-only, so anyone hoping to play physical games on the console will have to purchase an external hard drive for an additional £99.99. If you want a stand to prop up the console vertically, that’s an extra £24.99 too.
You’ll also need to buy new faceplates too, as they aren’t compatible with any of the older PlayStation 5 models either.
