Rewiring: Why people love EBT

In preparing to launch a new series of videos for our program on rewiring the unconscious mind, I found myself returning to the method's fundamentals.

At hand was the need to solve health problems, and whether it is anxiety or overeating, both at the top of our nation's health problems, the choices come down to three. We can white-knuckle it, ingest pharmaceuticals or foods that mimic them, or rewire the circuits causing the problem.

Sojourns into white-knuckling it

This behavior change approach involves force or endless tracking and is losing ground simply because research has shown that stress-induced chemicals fuel our drives. Going "natural" by forcing food or mood changes without changing chemistry is painful and out of date.

Drugs that assist but have downsides

With the idea in mind that health status comes down to chemicals, it makes sense that we have become a "pill for every ill" society. I take medications and would never deny myself one that really worked or at least worked when I was desperate. For example, weight loss drugs provide one of the eight chemicals that drive overeating and weight gain, GLP-1, only one chemical when eight control the drive to overeat and gain weight. With dependency and side effects part of the "bargain," there is room for improvement.

Rewire the root cause of the problem

People love EBT because it gives us techniques to rewire the stress circuits that drive the chemical cascades, causing most health problems. For example, with obesity, all eight of the major chemicals that cause cravings, lethargy, overeating, and weight gain are stress-related. When you rewire stress, it can normalize. Instead of being chemically driven to overeating—or other problems like anxiety, depression, and reactivity—we are chemically supported in developing healthy habits and moods.

Our new Precision EBT, which guides users in zeroing in just the circuits that cause whatever problem they identify, motivates more people to use EBT as a foundational part of their healthcare.
