It is absurd to support Israel’s right to defend themselves & then baulk when they do just that

A just war

ISRAEL has received no end of advice from world leaders to back off.

It has, commendably, ignored the lot.

Calls for “de-escalation” are the facile response of today’s risk-averse politicians to most military action — but they are especially shrill when Tel Aviv reacts to monstrous provocation.

Why is that?

Some wars must be fought.

Some enemies are straightforwardly evil and must be defeated to make the world safer.

Britain should know that better than most.

And it holds true for Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy army in Lebanon which has rained missiles on Jewish homes for nearly a year.

They are finally paying the ultimate price — via the astonishing pager bomb blitz, precise and devastating air strikes and assassinations taking out one terrorist leader after another.

Only left-wing Western dupes and Islamist anti-Semites mourn Hezbollah, Hamas or the Houthis while hating on the Middle East’s one liberal democracy.

It is revealing too to see Israel being urged to pull back by some who would never demand Ukraine gives ground to its Russian invaders.

The Israelis were attacked too — on three fronts.

It is absurd to support their right to defend themselves, as our Government has, then baulk when they do just that.

Cop copout

THE extraordinary let-off for pervert cop Gavin Kelly over child abuse images looks like a woeful failure by the CPS.

Despite police finding vile pictures and videos on his devices, some in the worst Category A, prosecutors said they couldn’t prove he knew they were there.

If you’re sceptical about that, you’re right to be.

At a later disciplinary hearing, the sick sergeant admitted viewing and storing illegal images.

Kelly’s career is of course over. But why should this end there?

As the police panel said: “Individuals such as Gavin Kelly are fundamental in an illicit chain which comprises, at its core, the sexual abuse of children.”

Such perverts need real punishment to combat this horrific global trade.

Huw Edwards dodged prison.

But we believe in mandatory jail time for any man, like him, with Category A filth.

The CPS must rapidly review Kelly’s case.

Just desserts

WHY did it take so long for politicians to ensure that tips go in full to the low-paid waiting staff who deserve them?

And that restaurants and hair salons can no longer snaffle credit card gratuities?

That’s in the past, as of today . . . a great day for workers and for fairness.

Some places may sneakily raise prices to recoup lost income.

Top tip for them — don’t.

Customers would soon vote with their feet.
