DAISY May Cooper was heartbroken when a co-star from This Country died in 2019 – but has taken comfort in the belief that he predicted his own death.

Michael Sleggs sadly spent a lot of his life in and out of hospital after being diagnosed with congenital heart disease as a baby, before eventually dying of heart failure at the age of 33.

The actor was put in palliative care and told he didn’t have long to live a month before heart defects claimed his life.

Daisy was in close contact with her co-star during the final days of his life.

She told the Times: “When he was in palliative care near the end, he’d been in agony for his whole life, he was frightened of dying.”

But the actress went on to add that she believes Michael had a spiritual encounter that revealed the date of his death to him.

Daisy continued: “Then he phoned me up and said, ‘I’m not scared any more, I felt this angelic light at the bottom of the bed that told me within seven days at midnight I’d have a new body.’

“And he died within seven days, at 11.59. That brought so much comfort.”

She also revealed that she asked Michael to come back as a spirit and let her know that he was okay.

Daisy believes that did happen, sharing: “I hadn’t heard anything. It made me doubt myself.

“Then I woke up here and the duvet was being lifted, with no draught in the room. Then there was a banging, a musical hammering on the bedroom door.

“And Slugs had said, ‘I’m gutted I’m gonna miss the Phoenix festival.’ That’s this festival we have in Ciren.

“He loved it because it’s nearby and it’s free and this year there was a Guns N’ Roses tribute band. He was genuinely looking forward to it.

“Then blow me if this musical banging wasn’t on the morning of the Phoenix fest. Is that coincidence?”

Michael sprung to fame as the monosyllabic Michael ‘Slugs’ Slugette on sitcom This Country.

His character was friends with Kerry and Kurtan, played by siblings Daisy and Charlie Cooper, the stars and creators of the hit BBC show.

While he was alive Michael admitted that he almost got sacked while filming the first season because he couldn’t stop laughing at the jokes.

However, after getting coached by someone from Hollywood, he went on to star in all three seasons of the show.
