I’m A Celebrity 2024 is bringing back major part of show 4 years after axe

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is bringing back a major part of the series, four years after it was shelved.

There isn’t long to go until the ITV show returns, with speculation rife as to which celebrities will jump on board to head into the jungle this year.

So far, stars rumoured for the 2024 line-up include the likes of former Strictly Come Dancing pro Giovanni Pernice, former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos and boxer Tommy Fury.

While we’re yet to find out the official cast, it’s now been confirmed that a big element of the programme is making a comeback after four years away.

From 2016 until 2019, I’m A Celebrity had a companion show called I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp, which used to air on ITV2 and provided viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the goings-on of the camp.

It also featured interviews with former stars of the competition and relatives of the contestants.

However, in 2020, Extra Camp ended and instead, I’m A Celebrity… The Daily Drop sprung up in its place, which was hosted by Vick Hope and available to watch on ITV Hub.

The Daily Drop only aired for one season, before it was axed from the programme.

Extra Camp will be making a return – but it won’t be exactly the same.

The news was confirmed on Good Morning Britain, as comedian and presenter Joel Dommett – who was a runner-up on I’m A Celebrity in 2016 – explained how the spin-off series is going to work, which will be called I’m A Celebrity Unpacked.

‘I did the extra show for three years, which I loved,’ he said.

‘I feel like I learned everything there. And then it stopped for a couple of years and it feels like the right time to bring it back.’

Joel will host I’m A Celebrity Unpacked with former winner Sam Thompson and presenter and DJ Kemi Rodgers.

The 39-year-old continued: ‘We’re really sort of mixing it up. We’re changing it a lot.

‘Obviously, we’ve changed the name, which is great. And we’re going to have Ant and Dec on every day talking through lots of stuff.’

A spokesperson previously said in a statement sent to The Sun: ‘Since Extra Camp came off air four years ago the conversation and engagement around I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues to grow across all social media platforms.

‘This new ITV2 companion show will bring together all those conversations in one place, to give viewers the ultimate IAC destination for all of their news, gossip and behind-the-scenes fun around TV’s biggest entertainment show.’

A source added to the publication that there’s a ‘huge buzz around I’m A Celeb this year and everyone wants the mischief of Extra Camp to return as well’.

They continued: ‘It is believed that there will be a different show name as it makes a comeback with lots of names in the mix to host.

‘And it looks like there will be a few presenters as well to add to the fun of the show.’

Last year, reality TV star Sam was crowned the winner of I’m A Celebrity, with former professional boxer Tony Bellew finishing in second place and former Ukip politician Nigel Farage ending in third.
