Eagle-eyed football fans are convinced that Tottenham star Micky van de Ven had a poo during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game against Man City.

Goals from Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr helped Spurs beat Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions 2-1 as the north London club booked their spot in the quarter-finals.

Van de Ven, one of Tottenham’s key players, started the match in central defence but was forced off after just 14 minutes of action due to an injury.

Despite his short cameo, the Dutch centre-back has gone viral across social media with supporters convinced that he accidentally pooed on the pitch against City.

A clip on X has racked up over 3.5 million views, which shows Van de Ven wiping himself down and something appearing to fall out from underneath his shorts.

There is no proof it was actually poo – and is far more likely to simply be a piece of grass or dirt – but that hasn’t stopped fans from spreading online rumours.

‘Seeing [Phil] Foden play gave this guy diarrhoea,’ football supporter @IbbzHD wrote on X.

‘Bro actually s*** himself,’ @HeatXManCity added along with two crying emojis and a skull emoji.

‘Its a tactic,’ @PalmTreeFlex said. ‘So nobody comes close to him when he’s with ball. Including his own teammates.’

‘Anyone else thinking about Gary Lineker??’ @justsport247 posted, referencing the famous incident from the 1990 World Cup.

@roadender76 wrote: ‘Hahahaha. I’d love to just pop out and drop out a random nugget to relieve the pressure.’

‘When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go,’ @CurtyCM added next to a laughing emoji.

Van de Ven has been a Tottenham player since August 2023 after they paid
VfL Wolfsburg around £43m. He’s played 39 games for Spurs to date.
