It’s officially Halloween which means costumes galore will infiltrate social media, Heidi Klum will go all out in the most spectacular way, and the Simpsons’ annual Treehouse of Horror is upon us once again.

The cartoon has been on our screens for more than three decades, with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie getting into countless adventures over that time, while those behind the scenes have blessed us with some very eerie predictions.

This year marks 30 years since the classic Treehouse of Horror V first hit our screens, with many declaring the episode the ‘best one yet’.

In the season six instalment, Marge began proceedings by claiming that the whole thing was so scary that Congress had decided against the broadcast, with Homer and Bart stepping in to show it anyway.

From there, it was a swift journey through a parody of the Shining, a time machine toaster causing absolute chaos, and Springfield Elementary students dying and being served up as lunch in the cafeteria.

Which, lets be honest, is just another day in Springfield…

The first spooky special appeared in 1990, as part of the second season, and has been followed by some legendary scenes, including homages to Stranger Things, the Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead, Paranormal Activity and the Raven.

But Treehouse of Horror V, which aired in 1994, clearly has a special place in the hearts of all viewers.

Flocking to Reddit to commemorate the 30-year anniversary, SkeletalSam praised: ‘The GOAT Halloween special. Dad! Your hand’s stuck in the toaster!’

ClutchReverie agreed: ‘Yeah this is my favorite Halloween episode. Love the part where Moe’s like “Uhh Homer, the other ghouls and I are concerned that the project isn’t moving forward”, “Can’t talk…eating…”’

‘I was always under the impression that the last two segments were in more later TOH episodes… I realize now this is really the best episode ever in the TOH series,’ CallMeTeff penned.

Chrisbee223 said: ‘I think that’s my favorite treehouse of horror! It’s just so good.’

As Rustyshackleford1094 added: ‘Absolute peak Simpsons and the best Halloween special.’

All this praise means the upcoming Treehouse of Horror extravaganza, airing this weekend in the US, has a lot to live up to.

Speaking to Variety earlier this year, the Simpsons bosses promised it would be ‘the scariest 35th Halloween special ever’.

In pretty perfect timing, they have parodied Venom, with Homer going up against ‘Denim’ – an evil pair of jeans.

Showrunner Matt Selman explained it will focus on his ‘deep relationship with a simple alien symbiotic pair of jeans.

‘It’s a really funny, silly segment about the jeans are going to be actual stop motion denim created by the Stoopid Buddies animators that do the Robot Chicken shows.

Bring it on.
